Well, there wasn’t a free lunch, but there were free nibblies and drinks! I’ve just come home from the launch of Hal Spacejock 4: No Free Lunch, by fellow ASIM-ite Simon Haynes (alias
). Was very pleasant, even with the inclusion of the rugrats, and I’m glad I could be there to support Simon. Not, perhaps, that he truly NEEDS my support, given the massiveness of his fan following AND the almost full page write up on him and the new sekrit (not so sekrit now that the West Australian outed him today!) project in the West today, but still, I’m glad I could be there.
I remember reading a very early version of the original self-published Hal Spacejock, and feel privileged to have been there since early on. I was lucky enough to collect Simon’s Tin Duck for him (for Hal 3: Just Desserts) earlier this year, which I FINALLY passed to it’s rightful owner this evening also! I read the third instalment of this awesomely fun series on a couple of weeks ago (VERY slack of me!) and am totally looking forward to losing myself in this one – apparently there’s horror! *boggles*
Keep an eye out for some forthcoming announcements re: the Spacejock series – I’m not doing the outing here tonight even if the West DID let the cat out of the bag today!
It was a delight too to spend some time (however briefly) with
and Russ, so all in all, lovely and worth the drive (and the whiny kids on the way home 🙂 )
